Joel Coen and his brother Ethan are, without a doubt, one of the most interesting teams working in the film industry today. From Blood Simple throught today they have made films that are, even if you end up not liking, alway worth seeing. I feel that their skills are suited more to the dark side as shown in such great works as Miller's Crossing, Fargo and The Man Who Wasn't There. But the Coens have also demenstrated a flair for comedy with Raising Arizona, Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski. The Hudsucker Proxy fall firmly in the latter category as it is filled with a kind of nineteen fifties fast talking humor.

The plot centers around Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins) who get a job in the mail room at Hudsucker Industries. After the suicide of Waring Hudsucker, Norville ends up being promoted to president as part of a plan to drive stock prices down so the board, lead by Sidney Mussburger (Paul Newman), can buy a controlling interst in the company. Once he is made president, Norville hires Amy Archer(Jennifer Jason Leigh) as his secratary. Amy is a reported who has gone undercover to reveal that fact that Barnes is a buffoon.

Irreverent satire about the bussiness world and how it sees the rest of the world is what the Coen brothers give us with this film. The board tries to take advantage of a small town guy, but he ends up being more than they bargained for.
