Badlands - 1973 - Terrence Malick

He was 25 years old. He combed his hair like James Dean. She was 15. She took music lessons and could twirl a baton. For a while they lived together in a tree house. In 1959, she watched while he killed a lot of people. The tagline from the original poster sums the film up pretty well.

Badlands is an amazing debut from a director that has gone on to make nothing but amazing films. Terrence Malick is a perfectionist of the highest order and it show in every shot of his films. In Badlands we get a Bonnie and Clyde story of two young people on the run from the law. Holly(Sissy Spacek) provides the naration while Kit(Martin Sheen) is the force that moves the action forward. Malick is one of the most visually interesting directors working today. That said Badlands comes across as the least imaginative of his films. All told Badlands in a great film and it makes one wonder why Mr. Malick goes up to twenty years between projects.
