Breach - 2007 - Billy Ray

Breach is based on the true story of Robert Hanssen(Chris Cooper) the greatest spy in U.S. history and how he was captured. Ryan Phillippe plays Eric O'Neill a young clerk who is assigned to Hanssen to observer him and collect information for Agent Kate Burroughs(Laura Linney. Being a based on real life events, you should know from the outset where the story is headed and how it will end.

Breach is one of the tightest thrillers of the past few years. The performances are all exceptional. Chris Cooper's embodiment of agent Hanssen is Oscar caliber. Some of the dialog around inter agency cooperation feels as if it was tact on to remind viewers that the events are taking place before 9/11. The cat and mouse action is handled in a believable way and it is easy to forget that there is only one way for the story to end. Pacing is perfect and helps to keep the tension up through the climax of the action.
