Pineapple Express - 2008 - David Gordon Green

The combination of David Gordon Green and the Judd Apatow group making a stoner comedy is the kind of idea that one may have while partaking of the sticky greens. Green has been an indie darling since he first appeared on the scene with the beautifully lyrical George Washington. On the other hand Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and the rest of the crew have made it big with a string of hit comedies. So the question going into Pineapple Express is are mixing chocolate and peanut butter or oil and water? Well I am not sure. Pineapple Express is a funny movie but, it is very dark and shockingly violent. Green's touch can be scene in a few gorgeous shots. At times it feels like a dark analogue to Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.
