Summer of Darkness Week 8 7/20 - 7/26

Roadblock - 1951 - Harold Daniels
An insurance investigater meets a girl with expensive taste. He uses his insider knowledge to set up a foolproof heist.

Beware, My Lovely - 1952 - Harry Horner
Psycopathic Robert Ryan terrizes Ida Lupino.

Clash by Night - 1952 - Fritz Lang
Barbara Stanwyck is a bitter middle aged woman returned to her home town after failing to make big. She tries getting married and having a child but cannot stay away from Robert Ryan.
Lang is dealing with a lot of issues here. Age, gender politics, how people deal with the realities of life after their time in the sun has gone.

Kansas City Confidential - 1952 - Phil Karlson
They pulled off the perfect hiest, now they just need to collect the dough.

Macao - 1952 - Josef von Sternberg (or maybe Nicholas Ray)
Jane Russell may have Hughes' muse but I'll take Gloria Grahame.

The Narrow Margin - 1952 - Richard Fleischer
A train is always a great setting for noir.

His Kind of Woman - 1951 - John Farrow (and an uncredited Richard Fleischer)
This is all over the place. Mitchum and Russell are both fine as the leads but Vincent Price steals the show.

Best of the Week: Macao - 1952 - Josef von Sternberg & Nicholas Ray
