Melville brings his cold brand of film making to bear on the France resistance moment of World War 2. Everyday people put into heroic circumstances. It took real courage for the resistance to keep up the fight after the army fell so quickly.
Berberian Sound Studio - 2012 - Peter Strickland
A British sound engineer goes to Italy to work on a giallo film. A look at the rarely considered world of post production in film.
Lucy - 2014 - Luc Besson
Silly fun action from Luc Besson. The cutting in of stock footage to visualize metaphors is a neat touch. As soon as Lucy gets her powers it is clear that nothing can stop her. It is an interesting move to change the tension from will the hero succeed to what will the outcome of that success be. The 'science' is nonsense but it does not matter.
Wild Card - 2015 - Simon West
All Jason Statham movies are pretty much the same and Simon West has directed several of them. Never the best action movies but always entertaining.
